Inikot - meaning, "twisted unto", "spun around"
The chair is inspired by cordilleran basketry present in the mountainous region, specifically the Cordillera Administrative Region of Luzon mainland in the Philippines
The goal is to show what the Cordilleran Craftsmanship is capable of being. While the regions basketry is focused on.. well.. Baskets, for this project, my intention was to use it in another product.
The chair's frame is coiled, twisted - like the rims of baskets made by the region, while the coffee table is a mix of coils and plaiting.

For the chair to be sturdier, the inside of the rattan coil would be supported by a aluminum frame. Aluminums are durable and are able to withstand a load while still being lightweight. On the other hand, the coffee-table will be solely made of rattan or bamboo or the combination of both. The coffee-table will highlight the weaving Kalinga men often do when basketmaking. Supposedly, the fabric of the chair cushion would be made out of the 'Ikat' textile. But the idea was abandoned because it might be inappropriate for it to be used in that way. With that said, I opted for the chair to have a velvet fabric for it to have a more modern look that undeniably looks Art Deco.
